WHO WE ARE

“And to think that it all started looking for a place to produce high quality extra virgin olive oil …”. Massimo Pasquetti remembers the arrival on this somewhat magical hill. “Giancarlo Bini, unforgotten and refined Suveretan host, pointed out Belvedere to me. A handful of houses overlooking the world and a forest scented with Mediterranean scrub and caressed by an intense light “. The idea was to recover an abandoned place dominated by the Belvedere castle, built by Jacopo Appiani, Lord of Piombino, in 1574. Welcome to the “Land without men” so well told by Isabelle Chabot. Land of poor woodcutters, goats, and pigs… “I found this beautiful place, rich in perfumes, virgin, free from invasive anthropogenic signs. A perfect environment to plant the first vineyards by using the principles of biodynamics. With Andrea Bargiacchi we are working on a challenging and engaging project. The first wine arrived in 2008 with Sangiovese and Cabernet. In 2010 Vigna al Mare (Cabernet) and Vigna alla Sughera (Sangiovese) saw the light. The thing about Belvedere is that it is a hill that speaks with stones, in particular with marl, friable and is a source of minerals for a land already rich because of the nearby Metalliferous Hills. “Here the vineyards embrace the rock and feel the minerals, giving a wine that finds its original identity in the soil and offers very particular aromas and fragrances. Wine in Belvedere is not a construction job with winemakers, and it inspires the desire to create excellence. It is not a land suitable for compromise. It is an extreme place that requires commitment and effort, but the generosity of this fragrant wine is almost touching “. Massimo shares this important experience of his life with his daughter Maddalena, deeply in love with the “mineral soul of Belvedere, a land of winds and great horizons”.
Practicing biodynamics means developing an agricultural awareness. Wine is the final act of careful agriculture that involves all the senses. “The agricultural act is not a simple mechanical action, but an act of awareness that involves the landscape, the ecosystem, the health of the Earth and of human beings and the climate, with the aim of creating an elaborate, wine, which contains all these elements “. For Massimo and Maddalena, working with the land in this way is a revolution “but the wine must be good!”.

TIPS FROM THE PRODUCER

Massimo and Maddalena have no doubts. Belvedere of course: “This place never degrades you, even when facing fatigue and difficulties; and it always revives you”.
