WHO WE ARE
Il Falcone is a book of land and feelings that tells the story of the Petri family. An intense and saturated Mediterranean light floods the valley that opens up between the village and Monte Calvi: a landscape that expresses the beauty and harmony of biodiversity. Wine has been made here for two centuries, precisely since 1821 when the company was founded at the time of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Since 1911 it has been inextricably linked to the Petri family and has the identity of “an act of love” of Rosa and Agostino, Paola and Rosa’s grandparents, sisters who today together with Vittorio and Paolo are the heart, mind, and hands of Falcone. This place historically identifies itself with the brilliant minds of their grandparents, always inspired by great visions: with an awareness of the importance of enhancing the farming culture, a sensitivity towards a virtuous economy. The resources that came from the sale of farm products such as dried figs and pigs were used to educate the new generations. With appreciable pride Rosa remembers that “the first nursery school in Suvereto was in a house donated to the community by her grandparents”. Ferdinando was a surveyor and a point of reference in the Suvereto area. The last inhabitants of the farm annexed to the main house were the Sacchelli, transhumant shepherds: coming from Collagna in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, they settled here from November to May with a flock of sheep, working with fertilizers and milk. The transhumance brought with them exchanges of knowledge and important cultural contaminations. “It was thanks to them that in Suvereto wool replaced maize leaves as cushion padding …”
Bottled wine has been produced since 1994 and between 1999 and 2000 the decision of Rosa and Paola to fully dedicate their family energies to the management of the farm and the farmhouse, a symbol of the ancient hospitality of the Petri family. The vines are Giacomino, Clairette, Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah with which IGT wines of Tuscany and DOCG are produced: 2 young reds, 2 aged reds, 2 whites and white Tuscan grappa. “Wine is our way of explaining the identity of this place, where our family’s roots lie. We are the farmers of the past, or rather the sentinels of the territory. The Falcone wine is an expression of life and the beginning of a journey of knowledge that also includes extra virgin olive oil, offering the aromas and flavours of our home “.
Suvereto painted with few words? Paola, Rosa, Vittorio and Paolo have no doubts: “A marriage between sea and hills. Here you can experience a deep tranquillity immersed in a place where man has always respected nature. The vineyards are the symbol of generosity while the centuries-old olive trees of Falcone are the voice of wisdom and sculpt emotions “. Where does Suvereto reveal itself to travellers in search of the Genius loci? “Along the road that goes up to Belvedere”.
