When the Creator gave shape to the planet Earth, he decided that Suvereto would be an ideal place to make wine. This is what Stefano Casadei thought when he put his hands in the soil looking at a horizon full of light. “In 1998 I bought this land which immediately gave me positive feelings; the minerality of the soil and the breath of the sea are the pedoclimatic elements that constitute an important value when the idea is to tell life through the beauty of wine”. Ethics and aesthetics are the pillars that give stability to the character of Tenuta Casadei, an entrepreneurial project that Stefano shares with Fred Cline, a Californian in love with good wine. At the base of everything “the dream of creating a cellar that was in perfect harmony with our vineyards, where to produce wonderful wines without leaving this magical place of cultivation”. Tenuta Casadei can be described in just one word: Biointegrale©, which is also a registered trademark. “This means that our goal is to produce high quality wine by cultivating biodiversity and practicing sustainable, organic and biodynamic agriculture, in perfect harmony with the ecosystem with great attention for the generations of tomorrow”. Wine is the expression of a territory intended as the place where the vines have their roots. Stefano Casadei speaks of roots like a part of his soul: “The vine is the fruit that lives underground: an invisible world that feeds on essences and constitutes the heritage of wealth at the base of all plants”. The vision is the same that Democritus had 2400 years ago when he wrote that “trees can be compared to upside down men , with their heads stuck in the ground and their feet in the air”, identifying in the roots the command centre, the brain and the heart of life. The work in the Casadei Estate therefore begins by taking care of the silent and precious dimension of the subsoil. It is no coincidence that Stefano and Fred had the idea of carving the cellar ceiling with roots: icons that tell the company’s philosophy. The vinification takes place in concrete tanks, terracotta amphorae and oak barriques from the Central French Massif. Casadei is a reference point for international grape varieties and the names of the wines tell the spirit of the place: Armonia, a blend of red berried grapes; Mediterranean Dream made with Grenache, Mouvèdre, Syrah; Filare 41 and Filare 18 respectively with 100% Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc macerated in amphoras; Incanto Mediterraneo, a blend of white grapes vinified and aged in concrete.
Tenuta Casadei offers an experiential path, a balance between the essence of nature and the hands of man in the name of biodiversity. Not just a cellar and vineyards but a butterfly garden, a vegetable garden that symbolizes food autonomy, nutrition at the rhythm of the seasons and biodynamic treatments, and then the natural condominium pond for wasps, bees, hornets, fish, ducks, geese, and aquatic plants.
